Winter is really here, the nights are long, the mornings are dark and it’s starting to make us all feel a little like we need to hibernate. So, with the winter weather thoroughly upon us, it can be a little difficult to find ways to stay motivated. One of the best ways is to give yourself something to look forward to in winter and what better than a weekend break? Las Vegas is a great destination, as it’s generally a good deal warmer than the UK and the huge resorts mean that even if the weather isn’t great, you’ve got plenty to keep you amused indoors. Here’s how to spend an elegant weekend in Las Vegas, no matter what your budget.
Play Some Poker
It wouldn’t be a trip to Vegas without spending a little time in one of the many famous casinos. An hour spent at the poker table is a special way to kick off your weekend, but it’s easy to feel out of depth if you don’t know your stuff. If you’re a beginner then it’s worth getting to know the basics, as well as some of the finer details if you want to feel confident during your time at the table. Dressing for the occasion can help you to feel confident too, so opt for something classy. There aren’t enough occasions in life where you can wear a cocktail dress, so make the most of the opportunity and get yourself glammed up. A slicked-back chignon will look elegant and make sure you can always keep an eye out to see who’s bluffing.
Visit the Bellagio Fountains
Next on the list is a totally free visit to one of the most iconic spots in Las Vegas, The Bellagio. This huge resort is certainly glamorous on the inside, but you can stand outside and watch the incredible fountain displays totally free of charge. The fountains are lit at night which makes this a particularly special moment, especially if you’re travelling with a romantic partner. However, the best lighting for the all-important Instagram selfie will be during the day. If you really love it then there’s nothing to stop you from visiting twice of course! Just remember that the shows start every half hour if you want the full experience.
Strut Down the Strip
The Las Vegas Strip is another totally free and totally fabulous place to see on your adventure. You could walk up and down the strip all day and never get bored with all of the sights you’ll see. Not only is it one of the best places in the world for people-watching, but it is also the perfect way to familiarise yourself with the geography of the city and scout out places that you might like to visit later on. For those with a bit to spare in the budget, it’s possible to get a whole different point of view on the strip. At either end of the main drag, you’ll find a zipline station. From here you can take the zipline and get a bird’s eye view of everything that’s happening in Las Vegas. It’s not for the faint-hearted and definitely not for those who are scared of heights, but the view is something you’ll never forget.
Eat Like a Queen
Vegas is famous for being a city of over-indulgence, so it would be almost criminal to visit without going to one of the many buffets. Vegas buffets are unlike anywhere else in the world, so much so that there’s a whole documentary about it. If you’re staying in a resort then it’s very likely there’ll be a buffet that you can go to there, but if you want to get out and explore then the buffet at Caesar’s Palace. Called the Bacchanal Buffet, this buffet is regarded by many as the very best buffet in the world. You can visit from breakfast right through to late, late dinner. Expect treats from all around the world like dim sum, tacos, salads, BBQ and a dessert station that could make a grown woman weep with joy. Arrive hungry and wear an elasticated waistband, you have been warned.
