When Kings Guard Manuel Alcantara Turner represented England at Mr World , he encountered a variety of activities. These included discussions on current affairs, participation in fashion-focused events with international contestants, and a demanding sports round for which his military background prepared him.
Additionally, the organizers and judges required detailed information about each contestant representing their country. This included questions on the entry form about their family pet history.
It turns out Manuel grew up with lots of pets and his own mother Breeds award winning dogs!
Manuel’s mum Charlene Turner recalls
” When Manu was born we had a Boxer dog ,chickens, hamsters but he can’t remember that of course ! I think the first dog he remembers is Sasha a Staffie as Manu was only 4 when we got her. theres been a few over the years !
Manu joined the army at just 17 and based in Newcastle and his mum and her husband started breeding rough collies.
Charlene continues “We’ve had about 5 litters of rough collies so far. Manu has been to a couple of dog shows with us as he loves dogs but he was already in the army so couldn’t really go to many.
In 2022 we went to Birmingham to show “Sonny” (pictured with Manu) at Crufts. Sonny was bred by Chantal & Andre Scott of Chantique Collies. This was the first time for us showing a dog at such a high profile show. My husband didn’t even take a nice suit jacket or tie as we didnt expect to win ! Our fellow exhibitors had to lend him a jacket and tie as it was so unexpected and to our surprise “Sonny won “Best in Breed!”
We now have two champion dogs. And have a couple of others with cc’s (challenge certificates)
Its a busy life breeding dogs but I do love it . I walk the dogs once a day. Their coat takes lots of brushing and upkeep especially if they’re in moult season but if you keep on top of it it’s really not too bad.
We are going again to Crufts this year and will be entering another champion dog of ours called Aaron, bred by us so its all very exciting.
I hope my son Manuel will be there , as you know he’s in the British Army so we are not sure yet if he can make it . We are so proud of him winning the Mr England title and representing his country at Mr World.
Manuel has never been to Crufts . it’s such a nice day out and theres lots to see . It would be great support for Aaron if he had Mr England cheering him on !
